I think that in general Canadians are nicer than Americans, for sure. (I've live in a suburb of Detroit my entire life.)

I'm a Canadian and can honestly say that I have found the vast majority of the Americans I have met to be very nice, friendly and generous people. The same is true for most of the people I have met from other countries too. Now we do apologize to someone who has just bumped into us, but that doesn't make us any nicer.

I'd like to think that we Canadians are pretty nice people. When we have gone to the
states, we find sometimes people are pushy in stores or just plain rude. However, I have also found that to be true here sometimes. For instance, I waited patiently at a counter to get waited on. There were 2 women behind the counter and if looks could kill I would be dead. Then a man came to the counter, and they fell over each other to wait on him. I spoke up and said that I had waited patiently for quite a while and that they were going to wait on me first. They did but were not happy about it. Rudeness can be anywhere. Quebec is the worst. I think a lot has to do with how you treat other people. If you let people treat you like dirt, they will.

I even have puzzled that myself. this is something I observe right this moment whilst i'm up there. i think of before everything this is because of the fact Canadians are much less crowded. they have greater elbow room. The inhabitants of California (the place I stay) yet spread out interior the 2d best united states in the international. yet even interior the massive cities Canadians are greater comfortable, greater polite and considerate, so as this is basically area of it. i think of it is likewise that the Canadian custom is greater British, exceptionally interior the jap a million/2. British custom is basically greater civil. Canadians are additionally greater communitarian. interior the U. S. we rejoice the 'rugged individual'. Our united states has grown up with considered one of those 'each guy for himself' mentality. Canada is lots greater 'us' than 'me'. and then there is politics. our legislators polarize individuals. The p.c.. themes to set us against one yet another, and say issues that are meant to be provocative. I blame the Republicans for this greater often than not because of the fact polarization alongside political lines advantages them. This filters down into our custom, as seen interior the disagreement on R&S between Christians and Atheists, or the various battles over the dying penalty, gun administration, abortion, the ten Commandments in courthouses, and so on. and so on. no person needs to settle on those themes, they could particularly basically proceed to combat over them. in many techniques, i think of Canadians have found out from our errors!

you can't compare them to each other.
people are people, and in every country there is a fair share of good people and bad people.
just because they are polite and says 'sorry' when they bump into you does not mean they're any more nicer than the people who don't. who knows? maybe they were having a bad day.
it's difficult not to judge people as quickly as you look at them, but i guess it's human instinct.
just don't give into it too easily.
and...
unless you want to round up every single person from the US and Canada and investigate their personalities (which i think you wouldn't like to do) i think it's impossible to really figure out the answer to your question.
tell me if you find out, though =]
hope this helps!

YES...unequivocally!

Strawberry...you are right. The racism there is not the same as it is in the states and is a lot less prominent, but don't think that the US media has not influenced racism in Canada too. I have not seen such filth as I have here in the US in all of my life in Canada.

People claim that we are, in general, more polite drivers...

(I live in Canada at the moment, but maybe I am so polite and refined because of my Russian upbringing...)

Depends on your point of view. Americans have a reputation for being loud which can be annoying to others (esp. non-Americans).
