Incident

Once riding in old Baltimore
Heart-filled, head-filled with glee,
I saw a Baltimorean
Keep looking straight at me.

Now I was eight and very small,
And he was no whit bigger,
And so I smiled, but he poked out
His tongue and called me, "Ni**er."

I saw the whole of Baltimore
From May until December,
Of all the things that happened there
That's all that I remember.

-- C. Cullen

For some reason this was the first poem that I remembered...

Anything by Edgar Allen Poe would be good. Once in choir, we had to sing a song based on one of his poems. It was called,"Annabel Lee". Basically, a wealthy girl falls in love with an equally wealthy boy but shortly after they meet, she dies by drowning. Very sad, but that's why I used it as an example for this question.

Sympathy

by Paul Laurence Dunbar

I know what the caged bird feels, alas!

When the sun is bright on the upland slopes;

When the wind stirs soft through the springing grass,

And the river flows like a stream of glass;

When the first bird sings and the first bud opes,

and the faint perfume from its chalice steals--

I know what the caged bird feels!

I know why the caged bird beats his wing

Till its blood is red on the cruel bars;

For he must fly back to his perch and cling

When he fain would be on the bough a-sing;

And a pain still throbs in the old, old scars

And they pulse agian with a keener sting--

I know why he beats his wing!

I know why the caged bird sings, ah me,

When his wing is bruised and his bosom sore,--

When he beats his bars and he would be free;

It is not a carol of joy or glee,

But a prayer that he sends from his heart's deep core,

But a plea, that upward to Heaven he flings--

I know why the caged bird sings!

I use to hold your bottle,now you hold it by yourself,you've just begun to toddle and pull things from the shelf. We hardly used your stroller,Cause your walking on your own, You've grown your 1st molar and trying to talk on the phone. It's only been a year and look at all you can do. I wipe away my tears as I imagine you at two!

As I sit here waiting for you
the tears go down my face.
As I sit here waiting
all I ever felt was disgrace.
As I sit here waiting
the love grows stronger.
As I sit here waiting
the depth is no longer.
As I sit here waiting
Im always watching you.
As I sit here waiting
I'll always be waiting for you.
As I sit here waiting
I'll always be true to you.
As I sit here waiting
my love will always be there.
As I sit here waiting.....
I'm waiting for you up here!

As I sit here and listen to my music
there isnt a song that describes how I feel.
Feeling so alone, not a friend around
no one to tell and share my deepest secrets with.
I'm so tired of this life I live I just wanna die
but I cant cause my daughter needs me so.
Basically having someone you love tell you
that youre nothing but a burden.
Thought that you had your heart repaired?
but nope, instead it had a knife plunged into it.
That wall that you built, thought that it was gone?
but nope, its always been there, and it always will be.

Standing by,
All the way.
Here to help you through your day.

Holding you up,
When you are weak,
Helping you find what it is you seek.

Catching your tears,
When you cry.
Pulling you through when the tide is high.

Absorbing your voice,
When you talk.
Standing by when you learn to walk.

Just being there,
Through thick and thin,
All just to say, you are my friend.

Confidence
by Anne Brontë

Oppressed with sin and woe,
A burdened heart I bear,
Opposed by many a mighty foe:
But I will not despair.
With this polluted heart
I dare to come to Thee,
Holy and mighty as Thou art;
For Thou wilt pardon me.

I feel that I am weak,
And prone to every sin:
But Thou who giv'st to those who seek,
Wilt give me strength within.

Far as this earth may be
From yonder starry skies;
Remoter still am I from Thee:
Yet Thou wilt not despise.

I need not fear my foes,
I need not yield to care,
I need not sink beneath my woes:
For Thou wilt answer prayer.

In my Redeemer's name,
I give myself to Thee;
And all unworthy as I am
My God will cherish me.

O make me wholly Thine!
Thy love to me impart,
And let Thy holy spirit shine
For ever on my heart!
