Well it depends on what size your getting. I recently got one myself, Its about the size of a vertical dollar bill. Some people ask me why I got one and I answer I always wanted one and I didn't want to be laying on my death bed. Saying I would've got a tattoo. But like you I was also afraid I'll be sitting in the chair in agony. And to some people it could be true. I was told by other people there are some places that will hurt more than others. If your getting one on the ankle or your finger wheres there very little flesh for cushion. It might hurt but what might hurt for some might not bother you at all. My personal suggestion to you would go to a professional tattoo artist. With his or hers experience in the business they might be able to tell you what spot is more painful than others

The tattoo artist should be able to help you with that, they've done lots of people. I heard some of the tatoo artists on cable TV say the ribcage is the most painful. Good luck.

The ankle hurts alot less as well as the shoulder. Since there is less meat there so it doesn't hurt as much. I know this isn't the same but stitches hurt worse on areas with more fat. Needles are needles.

If you're not good with pain, then I would skip the tattoo.
