I am getting stuck at a dinner event where I must dress up a super hero. I don't have costumes readily available, nor do I have the time or money to obtain or make one.

Please give me some suggestions how I can show up at this event in civilian clothes and still be a superhero.

If it helps I have a beard

Thank you so much

The suggestion of being one of the superheroes in civilian clothing; thought the beard does make it a bit harder, since I don't know the size or look or anything else. I'm going to guess it's a medium-sized to stubbled beard and go with being a retired Green Lantern.

All you need is a simple ring with a green gem onto it, that you can get at a dollar store; or simply say it's in a safe place for the time being, plus that you also wish to "not refer to the past unless it's absolutely necessary to be reintroduced".
This way, people will REALLY think you're getting into character.

The Nick Fury suggestion is good. An eyepatch and a cigar are all you need to be him.
Another common thing to do is just get a t-shirt of a super hero costume. For example any Superman or Spiderman shirt (even better if you happen to have one lying around), and just wear a dress suit slighty unbuttoned so the shirt can be seen underneath. Add glasses for Clark Kent, a camera around the neck for Peter Parker (Spiderman).
Another easy one is Hulk. If you have ripped clothes, or clothes you dont my ripping, especially a white shirt and purple pants (if you have purple pants, might as well rip them). Just tell people you are Bruce Banner and they better not make you angry.
Solid Snake is a possible video game character you could go as, if you have a cardboard box. Just cut a hole to see and walk around in it.
Another possible one is Quailman from Doug. This requires underwear, a green sweater, kakhi shorts and a belt, (probably depends on your age, cause if you are over 25, then this would be confusing and probably quite embarrassing).
These are the best I could come up with, good luck!

You can search DC or Marvel comics sites and check out the heroes and their looks while they are in civilian attire. I don't know what you look like, so I can't help you pick.

The only ones with beards the come to mind are: Aquaman (the new version) - blonde hair; Nick Fury as someone suggested with dark stubble; the newest Green Lantern, John Stewart, is black and has a goatee; Green Arrow - blonde hair....

You could also go as Bruce Wayne/Batman in one of his disguises he used to gather information. (And if you aren't married and find that Batsuit... LOL!!!)

OH! Superman had been transported into the future in one episode of Justice League. He had a full beard and his suit was more like thrown together rags of his token colors.

*****EDIT***

Okay, You HAVE to come back and tell us what you chose! LOL Pics would be nice, too :P

Jade had a good idea. You could be (a bearded) Matches Malone. Just a slightly cheezy suit and a matchbook, and you're set. Wear something black underneath that will peek out occasionally, to make it look as though you have the Batsuit on under the "disguise".

you can always go as Nick Furry if you have some camo pants and a sleeveless shirt. He was in a few of the Punisher comics and a short lived line of his own

A beard? Go as "Rugged Man" or some outdoorsy sounding dudes name and wear flannel with jeans. Hell, can you go as tall/folk tales? Why not go as Paul Bunyan?
