Because this is a democracy, and in a democracy, the government is supposed to do what the people want it to do.

You are right! Capitalism isn't even an -ism! It is not an ideology or some government system out to get you! It is freedom, clear and simple! Today people have lost touch with what is truly important, freedom! Everywhere I look people don't understand supply and demand, government inefficiencies, history of socialistic societies, or why Americans are so individualistic! They are given promises from a poitician to "make things better"! Well hell, who couldn't vote for that right? Wrong, those with a brain and a heart vote against government on almost every issue that pertains to control! Government should be minimal, history has given us the tools to understand this. But no, they say I am brainwashed, they say I am under Bush's spell(even though I hate republicans and democrats equally and would never vote for one!) they say I don't know, and they say I am wrong! Well time to hear the rooster folks! To all of you who have said these things to anybody without reading a book, You are wrong about using big government! It doesn't work, it will never work, and you are severly pushing for a world government that makes it even easier for corruption to run rampant! The competitive markets are our earthly saviour, not Hillary! ~ Libertarian

The Government's role in society should be to manage our treasures, enact laws, and liaison between the people and other countries in this global market.

There is no place for the Federal Government in education. That is, at most, a State Government function in that the education system should be managed and maintained at the district level. There should be NO Federal Department of Education. That's a State's rights violation IMHO.

I think that it's good that the Government promotes art as long as it doesn't interfere with the artistic process. I feel the government should build museums and concert halls. I just don't think they should tell us how to fill them. It's all part of managing our treasures.

Because there are many socialists in this country. So many people don't want to use their God-given brain to think with. They would rather be sheep and just follow anything.

The Constitution gave only 21 things that are the responsibility of the federal government. Education and art are not among those 21

because education is vital to America's success?

name one successful country that doesn't have public education? do you really want a country where everyone under the poverty line has never went to school? crime would go up 2 to 5 fold alone, not to mention every other social impact... every poor person would have no chance, and it would make it many times harder for anyone to succeed...

art is a little more understandable to question... but most educated people understand the importance of art and it's value... have you never been moved by art?

have you ever studied systems of pure capitalism and the colossal failure it is? it almost makes communism look successful in comparison...

all you can do is cry about your money... is that all that is important to Republicans? That's the image many of you portray on here....

have you ever been to a poor neighborhood in your life?

in THEORY capitalism is nothing more than equal opportunity, but so is socialism IN THEORY... Republicans always talk about how democrats aren't realistic... do you really know that little about capitalism to say that it's equal opportunity?

I do believe the States are responsible for public education at a minimum. But, that also means we should not have a Department of Education on a Federal level (think of the millions we could save).

I think the government should build and maintain museums, but not necessarily supply artists with funds.

The government made itself responsible whether we like it or not.
When responsibility is handed to a higher court and another higher court for the decisions that the people can't come to agreement on the government gets the control and writes it up in to a law. It's actually our fault the government gains so much control by not being able to agree.

The government isn't and shouldn't be responsible for that stuff. The parents are responsible for educating their children and as communities they should decide on educational things for the children, or home school. I didn't know anyone thought government was responsible for promoting art.

Because Government is by the people and for the people.

And people want schools.
