too late for any birthing classes

try slapping your hubby around and giving him a taste of what you are going through

Water, water, and more water. I went into pre-term labor about two weeks ago (at 30 weeks) and I've been struggling with contractions. I take a drug called Nefedipine to help control them, but that doesn't always do a great job. I gulp down the water and that seems to help most of the time.

If you are not full term and you are having more than 4 contractions that are painful in a hour you need to call the doctor or go to the hospital. I waited too long and I dialated and now am on bedrest trying not to have this baby too early.

P.S. I just saw your second comment. My nurse said that a great way to help with the pain is to imagine that the contraction is a wave of water that is helping move your baby along. To understand that the contraction is natural and that our bodies were made to handle them helps to not get overworked and stressed over the contractions. Moving around is always good and just breathing through the contractions should help yourself not tense up. The more you tense up the worse they get. If you are opting to not have any pain medications then if you have a chance to look into hypnobirth, it's well worth it.

I learned this technique with my 4th child in labor. They taught me how to breathe. It really worked. They had to tell me when my contractions stopped because I didn't feel them. You take three short breaths saying hee hee hee and then blow softly out like you're gently and slowly blowing out a candle and say hooooo. I honestly can say it was great. Practice before you go so you can concentrate and learn it. Good luck.

i had a baby 7 days ago and i would get your butt to the hospital and get an epidural - they are great and i cant believe given teh choice someone would opt not to have one

i had to have an episiotomy and a vacumm extraction due to the babies heart rate rising and i couldnt have coped without the epidural

good luck

Squeeze your husband's hand really really hard! That's how I got through mine. No epidural. I'm sure your doctor must be aware you're having them. Did he/she tell you to take Tylenol every 4 hours? Mine did, like Tylenol is even going to touch that kind of pain, HA!
