If we are in the third millennium, the twenty-first century, and the two hundred first decade, then in a few months when i turn 17 will that actually be my 18th birthday? My first birthday would have been when I was born and my second birthday would have been when I turned 1.

Come on. Be smart. I didn't say I would be a year older. I was simply stating that it would be my 18th technical birthday.

Sory for any misspellings.

Technicially you are right, because that would be your 18th year of life!! I agree with you and personal I thinking about that every now and then. I am glad to see someone thinks like me ;-).

Good question... my Star!

Even if on that logic you called it your 18th birthday, the fact that you would only be 17 years old (I mean, young!) would remain unchanged.... if you were born on a Sunday, you could perhaps say this sunday is more than 8800th birthday for you!!!! You would neither be older nor younger, either way!!!!!
However, I would agree that the threshold line that is drawn after completing 18 years is quite arbitrary even though no nonsense.

In 18th century literature, you will sometimes find references to "my twenty-fifth summer" or "the fall of my eighteenth year". That does mean that the speaker is only 24 or 17, respectively, but is currently moving through their 25th/18th year. But for American legal purposes, only years you have successfully survived IN THEIR ENTIRETY count, so no, you'll only be 17. Sorry!

I was told that the Chinese (for that reason) celebrate the 1st birthday when the baby is born!!! Why not? The baby was born, and they celebrate the happy day of the birth! The 1st Birthday!

nice try... LOL... seriously, I used to think the same thing when I was a kid, I remember ARGUING with my mom about it.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but a birthday is more of an "anniversary" of one's birth, hence, you won't be 18 till next year. Sorry. ;)

In my opinion what we meant when we say birthday.. it is the span of time that we live here on earth... just like anniversary.. when we say anniversary, it means a year after.. so, that's it..........
