A few weeks ago, I was on the verge of being PROMOTED at my job, & now, I'm gonna be DEMOTED. Actually, I've demoted myself, 'cause if I don't, I'll be fired.

I'm a cashier, & I've been short a few times.
They told me that the next shortage is automatic termination, so I've decided to step down from cashiering

I feel like such a loser. I thought I was smart!! I graduated early, with a 4.0, & I've always done well at most things. I don't know why I kept messing up as a cashier. They watched me on camera, & saw me make STUPID mistakes. Giving people change of a $100 for a $10, paying them back what they paid me, etc.

I learned the register in a half hour!! I thought I'd be good at it!

I feel like an incompetent loser. I've never failed at something like this before... EVERYONE can be a cashier...

I cry every day at my job... whether it be over co-workers, bosses, or customers, I cry. Used to be 3 or 4 times a week, now it's daily.

I just feel like such a failure.

My family was so proud of me, no one, including myself, ever expected me to make such stupid mistakes, and be incapable of my job... which could be done by a monkey...
Why am I such a loser? Why did I screw up at this so badly?

Tiffany,

Sorry to hear about your troubles! The good news is that they don't suspect you of theft.

You may feel like it, but realize that you're not a loser. You're just not a fit for this particular job. If I were you, I would invest some time in finding a job that's a better fit. Better to leave on your own terms than to have to explain to a prospective employer why you were let go at your last job.

If you're crying daily and having problems with the concentration for giving change, are you getting enough sleep? Are there other things in your life that are distracting you from the task at hand?

No matter what, you're not a loser. Just a mismatch for this particular job.

Best of luck.

James

Well, maybe you are just not good at that kind of job.. Just think about it closely if you really like the job. If not, maybe quit and find another job. There are many other better jobs around. Really don't need to feel so upset over just this one job. If you have a degree, you should be able to find better jobs than just a cashier. You got a 4.0, that shows that you do have the potential. You may not be good at this job but could be good at another job... Well, also when you work, people are kind of strict with things like that... Well, you can learn from your mistakes and failures and try to do better next time... You don't want to be defeated from your mistakes and failures, you want to stand up from them...

Hey, everyone makes mistakes, no one is perfect. So what you messed up a few times, everyone makes mistakes. just because you did a few things wrong does not make you a loser. Here is what i think. You need to relax a little bit. If you go into work sad, crying all the time, you will not be able to focus on the job at hand, and the situation will only get worse. Look keep your head up, try to focus, and think things out. Don't be so hard on yourself. If you spend so much time putting yourself down, you wont have enough time to try to better your situation. You need to take some time to yourself and relax, take a second to breathe, and focus on your day. Try to have faith in yourself because if you put yourself down telling yourself you cant do something, chances are you wont be able too. Try to think positive, hold your head up high and i think you will be able to do anything you set your mind to. You'll do ok. Just believe in yourself.

You are nervous. And that compounds your mistakes. just relax.

Don't sweat it. FIND A NEW JOB.

When I was fired from my first job, I was working at McDonald's, I was 16 making minimum wage, and my boss told me "some people just aren't cut out for fast food". I was wrecked emotionally. Then I got a job in a grocery store. I loved it. And I realized " I hated my old job. Maybe not being cut out for fast food was a complement.

You are obviously very smart, talented, do something you like. No job is worth the emotional drain. You should not be crying about your job. Find something you like doing. I would do my job for half of what I get paid because I enjoy it and my co-workers. And any company that videos it's employees that closely does not respect them. If you enjoyed the job, find another employer doing the same thing.

There are lot's of jobs out there. find one that makes you happy.

don't be so hard on yourself, Princess. We all make mistakes. By the sounds of it you are capable of bigger and better things than being a cashier. Chances are that you are just bored with that dull job and your mind is on other things. What do you really want to do as a career? focus on accomplishing that.

Perhaps someone with intelligence on the level you seem to display is so bored with a cashier's job that it's difficult to pay attention. You might want to find work that engages your powers of intellect.

I think, if you don't mind my saying so, that you're settling for less than you can do, and that you're selling yourself short!Q

stop being so hard on yourself, I know that being a cashier is hard work and you can make mistakes and not even realize it . Maybe there is something else in the store that you will be good at.

Maybe you are bored with such a mundane job. Try to find something else that will challenge your intellect and you will do better.
It takes skill to be a good cashier. Maybe your skills are elsewhere.
