I mean, she had the braces before she started working at Mode, and no one in her family could have possibly had orthodontic benefits. She's even got a headband. The whole procedure is going to cost in the realm of $5000 minimum, right? (I love the show, just don't understand this one detail. Was it ever explained?)

It is just part of what makes her BETTY! I mean.. we know that when those braces finally come off Betty will have a makeover and almost rival Salma Hayek in the looks department.
Perhaps they took a loan out on something, perhaps their cute little house. Maybe she had a distant relative send her the $$$. Although, if that were the case, Betty would surely have given it to her family. I have no idea where they came from but they are just part of Betty.
Is there anyone else who thinks her nephew Justin, played by Mark Indelicato, is the cutest brightest new face in television? His fashion sense just slays me.
Uhm, I know Betty's family is poor, but I had a family member on welfare and her daughter had horrendous teeth. After at least 2 years of finagling with social services, her daughter was approved for major orthodontic work. What a smile now!

No, it wasn't explained yet. If she lived closer to the Mexican border, I'd say she had them done in Mexico. Growing up, the poor kids got braces in Mexico (I lived about an hour from Mexico) for a fraction of what it would cost in the US.

They are probably being paid for on credit, like everything else in the world! Besides don't they own their house? Could be a home equity loan :)

well we dont know if she had a job BEFORE going to Mode. One reason she has braces now, as an adult, is that she couldnt afford them in her childhood (probably).

lol i love the fact youve thought so deeply about it, maybe before Mode she had a fairy godmother who gave her braces (its tv, ur looking waaaaaaaaay to deep into it)
