Big time. You need a safe place for kids, insurance, age-appropriate play equipment, a clean kitchen for snacks, a place for naptime.
The parents are your customers, but the kids have influence. It doesn't hurt to take some early childhood education at the nearest community college.

yes it is. Most parents will want to claim their childcare on their taxes. You will also get significant tax breaks on your home. Do understand that the parents would want you to be certified in child CPR and such. Also a state certification wouldn't be such a bad thing either. Hope this helped.

If you run it like that...registering with the state, following their guidelines, having inspections, insurance, paying taxes, then yes it is a business.
If you're watching the neighborhood kids every so often you're just a sitter.
