Finite number of stars in universe & it begain about 12 to 20 billions years make limited time of lighting the sky such a large univesrse. Stars have large quantity of energy toemit light the area but this is very limited for size of the unverse (probbaly it is like zero watt bulb light in very big stedium ) as most of universe is empty so the unverse is dark

Now let me explain newtonian concept of infinate numbers of star this was argiued by him becuase gravitation pull all stars to one point should collpse the unvivese (then concept was univesre is stataionaray) but he explained this by saying that stars count is infinate so point colapse are also infinate which ineffect cancel each other so universe is holding on

But arguiment came if star count is infinate then in an infinate size of universe then all point in sky should have atleast one star (rember universe is infinate in size) & one argument is to get infinate size of universe we should have universe age should be also be infinate so all the star in the sky have suffient time to send ther light to crooss whole universe then we can imgine whole the sky to be fully lighted with infinate intensity But you also know that unverse is dark & most of the unverse is empty

The wiser explaination is star count is finate & universe probably begain arround 12 tp 20 bilion years ago and most of the universe is empty SO UNIVERSE IS DARK

Hi, it's obvious that at first sight this looks a stupid question but to me it's not. It's a very vital question needs an answer and I would try to do that best of my capacity.

I am a student of Physics so I would like to address it this way.
Darkness is a relative situation. Darkness is formed where there is no light. So absence of light itself is a darkness. To understand darkness again is a great topic and would require more then a life time to understand it fully. According to science the energy or light we see is altogether only 4% of total energy which exists in the universe. Then how about rest 96% energy? And science has fell short to describe it. Science just leave it by giving it a label as dark matter or dark energy.

It's very mind boggling if I get into little further to address this question it from philosophical point of view but in nut shell the cosmic wonders are much much beyond for human finite mind to comprehend. Darkness and Light are CREATED by CREATOR and there isn't any other way to understand it.

So as a punch line darkness is absence of light or vice a versa.

Thanks
let me know if anyway it helps you out

The closest star to the Earth is the Sun. It shines a lot of light onto the earth, but only one side of the Earth because the Earth itself is blocking the other half from the sun. The reason it is dark is because there is an absence of light. However, our planet rotates on its axis and makes a complete revolution about ever 24 hours. So in that time you have a period of light and dark.

AKA the Olbers Paradox.

If the universe is infinite in age and in size, then every line of sight should hit a star. And the night sky should NOT be black, but it is. Why?

Because the universe is finite and size and age and is expanding; there is a horizon 15 billion-ish light-years away (the edge of the observable universe) that we can not see past.

Hold an orange in a dark room and shine a flashlight on it. Only 1 side is light. The other is dark just like the earth rotating around the sun. It take 1 year to go around the sun and 1 day for the earth to completly turn on its axis - day / night.

The biggest source of light for earth is the sun. As the planet turns, the surface turns in and out of the light, as it turns out of the light, is is basically in a shadow and it gets dark.

Because all things reflect light it want to create if there is enough energy that can make it reflect which is light. When the sun doesn't come out, thee is no strong light so nothing can reflect its color so all of them don't make many light and there will be just a dark space

the only reason we call in night time is becuase its dark. thats why there are different time- zones around the world.

trying to make this as simple as possible. dark is the absesnce of light. there is no speed of dark only the speed of light.
its like if your in a dark room and turn a torch on and off. you cant be in a room full of light and turn on a dark torch (although that would be really reall kool)

There are deeper levels of darkness. I kid you not, I once walked outside and could not see even an inch in front of my face. It taught me a lesson I'll never forget. And I live out in the country where stars are abundant. The shock of that moment I have never forgotten.
