Always has been, huh? What about redlining residential areas? Try and tell me that never happened. I know neighborhoods where black families would be run out by means of violence within a month, so don't tell me that race is a thing of the past.

Everyone gets a chance - not everyone can be an Astronaut when they grow up. And if you're trying to use the race issue, then why don't you look at the culture of certain "disadvantaged" races? Who's holding them down? I certainly haven't oppressed anyone. Yet, if I want to make a club on campus for Scandinavian heritage and culture, I'd be called racist. Yet we have multiple black and latino only organizations. Why is there no American Caucasian College fund? Why can't it just be American College Fund?

Why is it that rappers glorify the lifestyle many urban youths want to live? They have schools to go to, but maybe they don't want to go. Maybe their parents don't encourage them to do well in school. I know lots of black folks that don't feel that school is a worthwile endeavor. One told me that he'd get more respect from his peers for shooting someone than for going to college. I wish that wasn't true. It's not an issue of racism holding people back, many times, people hold themselves back.

I think the USA is definitely better in that area than a lot of countries in terms of opportunity.

However I don't really buy into the "you can be anything you want to be" crap. Anyone who's ever watched the audition part of American Idol knows there are plenty of people out there who really want to be rock stars, but it's NEVER gonna happen.

You don't see many blind brain surgeons, either.

Excellent point about redlining. I have a whole rant on that, but it would take me half an hour of typing. But for those of you that don't know what us grown-ups are talking about, look it up.

I also adore when white males like to tell us people of color that racism doesn't exist. Wow, thanks for reassuring us. I was begining to think all those people who used derogatory racial terms when describing me were racist. Glad to know it was all my imagination.
