in CA same as a car- 15 for the permit and 16 for the license... good luck- oh and take a MSF( motorcycle safety foundation) course, because when you pass that, you dont have to take the riding course at the DMV, which I hear is really tricky! all you take is the written test to get your permit, then take the 2 week MSF course. I dont know about IL but in CA you HAVE to take the course to get license, so you get a discounted rate for the course.

I'm sure you mean riding on the public roads...
Each state has its own statutes regarding this, but I think most of them allow a 15 year old to get a permit to ride a motorcycle.
If it's off-road on private property, there is no age restriction that I know of.

its the same as a car 16, but the difference is when you have your motorcycle permit you can drive but only by yourself unlike a car with your permit you have to drive with someone over 21. on a motorcycle once you got your license then you can drive with someone else

To ride off-road, IE. Moto-cross, you can begin at any age, no matter where you are from. To ride on the road it varies, I believe from state to state, but it should be around 15-16.

You can be 16. Here's a link, scroll down about halfway, under "Young Riders", it has requirements for IL.
