The Honda Civic. While the Corolla is an excellent vehicle, the Civic has been recently updated. Honda usually releases their new generation vehicles about two to three years before Toyota does. But, when the new Corolla comes out, it will most likely be better than the Civic so it can be a better competitor. It's a very complicated process, but either way, you'd be getting a great vehicle.

Either/or, really. They are both incredibly reliable, sturdy cars. It just comes down to taking both for a test drive and seeing which once has the features you are really looking for. I recently bought a brand spanking new 2007 Honda Civic. It's an awesome, zippy, little car with a deceptively large amount of space and great gas mileage. (I used to drive my father's 1997 Maxima, which used 93 octane gas. *SOBS AT THE PRICES*)

As for the one comment that preferred Fords and Chevys? Remember: when the Apocalypse comes, the only survivors will be 1) cockroaches, 2) Aerosmith, 3) Hondas, & 4) Toyotas.

No lie. :)

I did a plentiful amount of research on both of these vehicles. I would say that the Honda Civic is the better choice because it has more standard features such as power windows, power locks, and keyless entry. But, it really depends on how much you are willing to put into a vehicle. The Civic's price range is a little higher than that of the Corolla's. Also, try going to Yahoo!'s auto section and try comparing the two. My research will be proven.

I recommend the Corolla because I heard Honda's are not as reliable as they used to be. I do not know about Civic's but my aunt has an '02 Odyssey that she bought new and the Transmission had to be replaced in it. It just simply went out without warning. It left her and her 5 kids stranded. Also my grandmother had a '97 Accord in which the A/C had always something wrong or another with it,Trust me you need A/C here in Texas. She hated that car so she bought a '05 Camry that she absolutely loves.

Since both cars are very reliable, I think you have to look at other factors such as performance, design and price.
Honda cars are known for their performance. Honda cars are much more engaging on the road, engines deliver more power,(because of the company's long racing heritage). Toyota Corolla drives blandly, and the car lacks control during high speed. (I drove one when I went to SF from LA. Not a fun car to drive but very good gas milage). Exterior design is very subjective, so I will leave it up to you for that one. As for interior, the Toyota Corolla can never match the fit and finish of the Honda Civic.
You have to go inside both cars to see the difference.
The Civic, at equal trim, is about 1,500 dollars more than the Corolla. Even so, I'd still choose the Civic over the Corolla.

This link I got off of the Honda site has the spec comparison of both cars (I tried to get the specs off Toyota's site but Toyota has pre-selected competitors: Chevy, Mazda and Nissan. The Toyota comparison is also not as extensive as the Honda/AIC report).

well they might have changed this, but in 2002 the corolla was better because it has a timing chain vs. timing belt. timing belts need to be replaced every 60-80,000 for like $600. In Corollas you don't need to worry about that, Hondas you do. Typically Toyota Corollas are the most reliable cars on the planet.

well...I drive a Toyota Corrolla, even though it is 10 years old and I have many of thousands of miles on it, its still runs great. Have only had major problems w/ it in the last year. So if you looking for reliability I would sugest a Toyota.
