Those in the Inner Party forced those in the Outer Party to do their homework assignments.

Those who refused to do their homework became proles because they wasted time on Yahoo Answers, shirked their education, and could not hack it as a Party member.

I enjoyed this book and actually read it twice. The living quarters of the Inner Party members were better than that of the outer party and proles. Those inner party members with more power, like O'Brien ( I think that was his name) had beautiful homes. Winston's place, although he was a party member, was not soo glamorous, but better than the proles. The party members were thought to be taken care of by the government, while the proles were left to their own devices in caring for themselves.
