My washing machine fills with water but will not wash,will drain if put manuly to due so what could it be?

I would say its the timer or selection knob that is the problem.
If you have to "advance" the knob to the proper location then 99% chance thats it.
Very easy to repair yourself and maybe $30.00 part. approx. half hour to do the job.

I was in the process of looking for another washer but, my son came over and looked at ours, a wire was loose, reconnected and made sure it didn't come loose again, I saved a bundle.
