What is the difference between a secondary and primary adaptation?

A primary adaptation is one that directly responds to the environment, say longer fur because of cold weather.
A secondary adaptation is one that happens to work in a changed environment although not directly due to an envronmental variable - a hare whose fur turns white survives better in snow.
