Hey Guys I am looking to buy a new computer which I basically use to watch DVDs, download and play mp3s, do all my internet banking, surfing the net, and some sports video games. I was looking at Gateway and they have one computer with the Pentium D915 and one with the Core 2 Duo E4300. The Core Duo computer is $120 more. Is it worth the extra money for what I am using the computer for?

Now with the Pentium D915 proseser it is ok but is an older proseser. the Core 2 Duo E4300 proseser is the newer generation one and is about 2 times faster. If u are looking for speed than i think u should get the intel.

Well, if all you're going to do is what you say, then the 915 chip should be find. It takes a 820 series pentium chip to run Vista.... so you're set. Vista and dual core and above won't be for everyone (even though in a way - that's where we're headed)....So.... If you want a computer to be able to be a DVD-R, a CD and run your house - dual core's where it's at (at least). If you want your computer for surfing, music, DVDs, watching, recording, downloading, you'll be find with the 900 chip.

I wouldn't get Vista anyway, till the SP-2 comes out. Then again, for $150, you get more state of the art technology - so with computers, more IS better.... but up to you......
