It depends if they are having a bad dream, or not. Sometimes they will go for a short slither, then go back to bed.

Snakes normally need to absorb solar radiation to warm them up enough to move so they rest at night. They will move if you disturb them. In northern Australia and elsewhere if the nights are warm, the snakes can remain active well after sunset.

They move if you disturb them, but being cold-blooded, they usually try to curl up in a warmer place and hide.
