my lizard did that and i thought it was dead but i keept messing around with it and it started to move its not dead but why do they do that ?????

lizard's act dead so that if a predator is near it will think its dead and wont actually hurt/kill the lizard.

So a predator won't eat the lizard. Other animals do this too such as possums.

if it is basking in a heat lamp area it will be still and regulate its body temp so that it can be warm if it moves around then it can't regulate its body temp . if there is no heat lamp then it will be lethargic if it is cold and go into a hibernation state.
