to last longer there are various type of binding available

u r not mentioned that you had already a book or u are going to publish or prouduce a one

If you have already one, see whether it has flat edge finish on the opposite of the opening (that is Spine), that means the book is made up in perfect binding style (perfect spine edge)

If your book is stapled in the spine, that is called saddle stiched book

To keep last longer, a hard board or thick card is made like a case, and the case is attached to the book by means of contact paper which pastes one part in hard cover and little like 6 mm to 8mm in the book (this is called Hard Binding or case binding or dutch covers)

In order to strengthen the book more, some have the option of wire stich the book in the spine before do the case binding so

They engage the hard cover with the book by pasting sheet in order to give lesser effort to the main cover (mostly to avoid folding marks of continiously used)of the book while getting opened, so more force will go to hard cover that will withstand in last longer

If you are publishing a book, just inform the publisher to go for Section Sewing with Hard cover binding, this book binding method will last longer will not produce any cover folding mark, this book will open fully, so you can read or see fullly in the spine, but this type of binding consumes time and expensive too

Hope i answer ur question, if like more add more info, i will give more

Fold Marks? I assume you're talking about a paperback book and if so they usually use contact paper. They use a special type of glue too.
