There are 3 hospitals I can choose from.

There's my first choice St. Mary's which is 45 minutes away but is top state of the art. They have all the new equipment, many birthing options (ball and squatting bar) and don't set a limit on who or how many can be there for the birth. I'm a little worried about this being too far. The doctors are the best in the state and they have a NICU on th esame floor. Gorgeous rooms plus they put security bands on the baby before it leaves the room.

My second choice is a much smaller hospital associated with Dean (a branch of St. Mary's locally) and its 15 minutes away. They have general equipment and offer a Juccuzzi, nothing else really. They also don't set a limit on who can be there but a max of 5 (fine by me) and the rooms are decent. Little security but it is a relatively small town with little birthing center traffic (like 2-5 women a day). Plus they have a really nice doctor all my friends swear by.

My third choice: Mercy Hosp.

Mercy is 35 minutes away and offers almost everything that St. Mary's does. Security bands, more birthing options, not as many but more than a Juccuzzi (which they don't. Beautiful rooms with huge tubs, couch, and recliner. They only allow 2 people present for delivery (I want 3-4) and I didn't care for the main doctors whom I met with my sister's pregnancies.

In Wisconsin it is not a law yet to use security bands, but most do. I have looked into this hospital and they do not use any security bands/tags. Thsi is not a huge issue for me as I will be rooming in the whole time I am in the hospital.

It depends whether this is your first baby or your 3rd or 4th. If it is your first baby, you will have plenty of time to travel to make it to St Marys. First babies take a while to arrive. However, if you have already had children, I would recommend the one that's only 15 min away since subsequent babies can arrive pretty quick. Good Luck and Congrats!

Well, I think I'd rule out Mercy first, if you didn't like the doctors.

And as for the other two, well, it's reccomended that your hospital be within 30 minutes, but sometimes that doesn't work.

When I was pregnant, the hospital that I planned to deliver at was about 45 minutes away, up to an hour and a half at rush hour. But part-way through, I switched doctors.

The second hospital was much smaller and placed a limit of 2 on the number of people in the room, but the staff was much nicer, the traffic was so much lower (when my son and when my niece were born, they were each the only baby in the nursury), and the rooms were nicer. They didn't have a NICU, so if anything went wrong, I would have to be transferred to the city hospital, but everything was expected to be fine.

I think if I were picking, I would go with the closer one, since I had such a good experience with my smaller hospital.

And are you sure they don't put security bands on the infants? I thought that was standard now, maybe even law. They definately put one on my son, implanted in the clip on his umbilical cord. It would set off an alarm if the clip got within 5 feet of the elevator. They removed the clip when he was discharged.

Good luck in your choice, and congratulations!

CHOOSE THE HOSPITAL THAT IS 15 MINUTES AWAY. SURE EVERYBODY WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE STATE OF THE ART CENTER FOR MATERNITY / DELIVERY, BUT THE PRACTICAL CHOICE SHOULD BE THE ONE CLOSEST TO YOU. IF THERE WERE COMPLICATIONS, YOU WOULD WANT TO GET THERE FASTER THAN 45 MINUTES, EVEN 35 MINUTES. AND SERIOUSLY, WHEN YOU GO INTO LABOR, A NICE, COMPETENT DOCTOR AND STAFF IS ALL YOU WILL REALLY NEED. HERE IN MICHIGAN, IT IS LAW THAT THE BABIES BE TAGGED, SO THAT THE ALARMS SOUND IF SOMEONE TRIES TO MOVE THE BABY TO A DIFFERENT LOCATION ON THE FLOOR. THEY HAD TO REMOVE MY DAUGHTERS TO TAKE HER TO THE ELEVATOR - IT WAS SET TO GO OFF AT 10 FEET FROM IT.

well don't pick Mercy if you can't have the people there that you want. Pick one of the first two. Distance isn't a big deal unless you 'shoot' your babies out. I am in labour over 7 hours so distance is not an issue with me. Most labours are up to 24 hours

You should go to the hospital that makes you feel most comfortable. If you feel that the one that is 45 minutes away will make you feel safer, than thats the one for you, but you are the only one that can answer which hospital is for you.

They forgot to feed me for 2 days and additionally saved forgetting to furnish me my discomfort alleviation. thinking I had an emergency c-area, i wanted the discomfort alleviation fairly in lots of instances. The care that I won earlier with between the midwifes became amazing nonetheless. solid luck on making the alternative x
