Turning itself on will be a timer function set interior the TVs menu. replacing channel will be a button jammed on both the distant or the tvs keyboard. I absolutely have also considered that from cleansing the show that windex or another liquid has dripped down on to the keyboard and corrosion has shorted out the frenzy buttons making it look to the microprocessor that the buttons are being pressed. finally the most uncommon element i have considered is the hot intense power lights (interpreting lamps and such) can emit quite some spectrum's that would hit the distant receiver and trick the television to do diverse operations.

Aha! THERE's your proof of ghosts!!
First, test where the problem is coming from. Remove the batteries from your remote and see if that happens again. If its your remote, try changing the batteries or replace it. If it's not, then its probably from your TV.
OR
If you live with more people, someone might have a universal remote control (one that can control most TV's). They might just be playing a trick on you. ;)
Hope you can fix it! :)

you probably have a UHF receiver on your DVR/TiVO box. Problem is that if your neighbor has a UHF remote, and they are close in proximity, then their remote will interfere and catch on to your boxes signal. So, they are changing your channels. You need to go into your setup and change the channel (not tv channel, but remote reception channel) to something else, then their remote won't be trasmitting on the same frequency and interfere with your box. Call your cable/satellite customer service if you need to be walked through this change.
Now if you live in the middle of nowhere, then you have a ghost with a short attention span who likes to flip around channels.

Someone must have programmed it somehow. Go to set up and see what's programmed and erase it. If none of this applies, call the manufacturer and they might be able to help you.

Have your neighbours got the same model?
If so you may be picking up their remote control signals.
