and Im only using a 10 gallon, so Im worried that to much heating stuff will make it way to hot. so is a undertank heater all thats realy needed for a leopard gecko??

You should either have them exposed to a natural daylight cycle or use a low wattage ( but bright ) incandescent light ( for light only ). They don't need as much UV exposure as diurnal reptiles, but even being nocturnal they do need a natural cycle of day and night to set their internal clocks by. They don't need basking heat to the degree that diurnal reptiles do either, but they do need some warmth to keep their activity and organ function normal. An undertank heater should be fine for a 10 gallon as far as heat ( if your substrate is not too deep ), but there should be ambient daylight too so they know when to sleep.

I would have to recommend though that a 10 gallon is insufficient space for a Leopard Gecko. That borders on cruel. You should have a 20 gallon, minimum. Fireside3
