If you are using Tarot cards as an oracle, you may be more inclined to read card meanings and spreads. But if using Tarot Cards as a tool for Psychic Ability you would be less likely to hold to any hard and fast guide lines. I’m a profession psychic and use Tarot Cards in a random way. In 25 years of professional readings I’ve never used any ‘meanings, spreads or reversals’ of tarot cards from any books.

So if you want to develop ‘Psychic Ability’ throw the books and guidelines away and let the images inspire you. But you may need to try the Rider Waite or another imaged deck.

I believe we are all psychic, but for the majority the gift or the belief has been long knocked out of them. Educated out is another way of looking at it. Many professional psychics have grown up in a psychic friendly environment. Perhaps a grand-parent or parent with the knowledge has helped bring the extra sense out in the open and encouraged its use. But there are as many practicing psychics who have not had the benefit of caring psychic guidance and who have still managed to develop and hone this natural extra sense. The Psychic Sense.

You can use this four minute video as a brief meditation on the tarot that, repeatedly viewed, will help you learn how to read tarot cards psychically. http://www.psychic-junkie.com/tarotvision.html

To tap in to it more you can go to my free develop-psychic-ability page here: http://www.psychic-junkie.com/develop-psychic-ability.html

But on the other hand, if you want to use the Tarot as an oracle, a form of divination that needs no real ‘psychic ability’, then keep the books and use the meanings and spreads if you prefer.

Here is a free download demo for a great Tarot program. To keep the size of the demo manageable it contains the Rider/Waite deck, the actual program will have 10 complete decks. This Demo version of Tarot is a full working copy for 30 days. So you get 30 days to study meanings and spreads! http://www.free-tarot-download-demo.wotsnext.com

There are a couple of good documentaries about the Tarot on http://www.MyPathTV.net

Concentrate on the question being asked, and shuffle the deck. Cut the deck. If reading for someone else, have him or her ask the question out loud as he or she cuts the deck. If you do the reading for yourself, ask your own question as you cut. Deal the cards using the tarot spread of your choice. A simple card spread is four cards in a diamond shape. Look first at the design on the cards. Cards that look right side up for the reader are in a positive position; cards that look upside down for the reader are reversed. Reversed cards indicate conflict or blocked energy or weaken the card's influence. Begin to learn the card meanings.

It is the approach you take that determines their effectiveness. The approach is more important than any inherent meaning anyone wishes to attribute the cards. The best approach to take is like a rochard or some kind of psychic (do not forget that the word psychic means of the mind) tool. You hold all the answers to your own questions and you are just using a tool to help unlock repressed or denied aspects about a particular situation. If you become superficial and ignorant about it ( which is easy to do ) you may get stuck on the metaphor and in fact let "the cards rule you" but of course this is a ridiculous approach as the cards do not render a black and white answer to your question. Instead, shuffle the deck and lay them out in an amount and pattern that you feel most comfortable. you can even invent your own lay out, and attribute different attributes to certain placements. After you lay out the cards allow yourself to study and focus on the imagery of the cards, both individually and collectively and what thoughts or emotions you experience while viewing them regarding your questions. Symbols are universal and you can derive much useful information form within without having a clear definition of each of the cards. I highly recommend a new deck I encountered while at an American Psychological Association conference called Soul Cards. I recommend these cards to anyone whom has a desire to learn about the true nature of divination and self exploration. we all can unlock the potential for insight and growth that dwells within our magnificent human consciousness. Best of luck!!!

I don't mean to be rude or go off topic but i used to do tarrot cards too and after thinking about what i was doing i felt like i shouldnt do it anymore.

1.Your letting yourself being controled by the cards. The cards decide your fate? I don't think so....Let U be U and U control yourlife. U shape what u beileve ..not some old wife tales.

2 it reminds me of the ouji board. That thing was so freaky that they stop making them cuz it was very negative.

Anyway u decide but from personal experience ...dont waste your time ur not missing out on a fake fortune.

Here's a little food for thought......
