There seems to be a common theme thoroughout hollywood history.
"Little girl with big hopes comes to the big city and becomes a celebrity, only to turn to alcohol and drugs."
What causes this?

When everyone says your great one day, then hates you for the next, it's damaging. Especially for people who need constant approval from others.

I think the key word here is presure! I don't believe this people stop to consider that with the fame and fortune comes a complete lose of privacy. Celebrities are followed every where they go. They have no peace from the press or the public. I know the money and popularity seems nice but I think it is probably one of the worst lifestyles any one could choose.

People search for fame and fortune - and even when they get it- it's meaningless- where's the glamour ? where's the pride?- so they keep searching turn to quick fixes to experience a "high" that was supposed to come with celebrity! Basically greed,peer pressure, and shallowness overwhelms them. They are empty creatures in cold business.

Being depressed over not really having a normal childhood or adolescence. Your private life, is not private at all. You are always in the public eye. Gossip, rumors, lies, about your life in the media. It's enough to drive someone to that lifestyle, because everybody expects you to be perfect, and no one is perfect.

I don't think it's a 'Hollywood' thing. Plenty of good people who were once considered sweet and innocent become drug addicts or alcoholics. (myself, for example) You just don't hear about the people who aren't famous. they are just normal people.
