Unfortunately they will. Domestic cats on the rampage are a real plague for wildlife. If it's a manageable size (anything from a bug to rabbits, grouse) they will kill it. Some will eat it others simply kill or torment and kill... In the states alone domestic cats (not counting the feral cats) are responsible for killing over 500 million birds and over a billion small mammals each year. There's a reason to keep your cat indoor. For more info :http://www.abcbirds.org/cats/factsheets/predation.pdf

Yes! I have a cat who within 5 minutes of being let outside, will go catch a squirrel and bring it to the back door, usually dead. Then 5 minutes later, the head is gone. He does this all the time. I find headless squirrels at my back door. I have watched him eat the heads off. Of course, that is not the best time to disturb him and stop him. I don't like for him to be around my other cats because I wonder if he will eat their heads off ! Someone said the heads are in my bed under the sheets, like the movie " The Godfather "

Squirrels are chicken! A domestic house cat could indeed kill a squirrel with only one problem, they would have to catch it first. That's the hard part. Squirrels are fast. I don't know that they would be totally interested in eating it. Cats have a natural instinct to stop moving things, such as a mouse on a string.

No. The domestic house cat would not stand a chance of catching a squirrel. The squirrel would rip the cat apart. Cats prefer much smaller mammals, like mice.

Most of the time the cats around our place just kill things and play with them...mice, squirrels, birds, a baby rabbit or two....and they leave them as "presents" all over the property. This is a reason I like my dog more.

Im pretty sure they do...I mean my cat, Ghost, used to catch bats while they were flying. So i dont think cats really have preferences. :0)

mostly cats just torture them to death, rather than just eat them.cats should be banned they do more damage to the native animal population than anything else other than mass land clearing.
