I breastfeed my 2 month old son but have been supplementing formula for a few weeks now. Well I just figured out dad has been using one scoop per oz instead of one scoop per two oz. We only give him one bottle per day. How can this effect him?

It's like eating a can of chicken noodle soup without adding the extra can of water to it... Not harmful.. just.. more calories per ounce than you intended. Take a deep breath and forgive yourself... In the grand scheme of things, this isn't a horrible thing... REALLY!

Since it's only one bottle a day, I wouldn't worry about it. He was getting twice as many calories from the bottle than he should have, but that's about it.

There are vitamins in the formula that your BM doesn't have. What his body won't process, he will deposit in the diaper.

He might sleep shorter now that there is less to digest between the formula bottle and the next nursing.

i agree with everyones comments, the extra amount of formula won't do no harm. although you may want to keep an extra eye on the out put. if you know what i mean. the formula that i had my daughter on when she was first born was the iron fortified simalac, and it had a tendency to cause problems.she had a hard time relieving herself ,being a new be i too made it too thick at first. if that occurs heres a easy solution, 1 level teaspoon of regular sugar in 8 ounces of water. it takes just one bottle to solve the problem.

Its just a little more calories and thicker than the average bottle. We actually did this in the evenings to hold him after we was sleeping through the night (after 6 months). He would wake up hungry. We would double the formula which made it thicker and he could hold his belly full until morning.
But to answer your question no, it wont hurt him.

All he did was make the formula double strength. It gave him double the calories and double the vitamins and such. It shouldn't hurt him but teach dad how to make the formula and everything will be fine. Everyone makes little mistakes like this. Don't panic.

Don't worry, he's okay! If it makes you feel better, call your ped on Monday. I fed my babies concentrated liquid formula for a few days before. I freaked out when I realized my mistake, but they were FINE. The ped laughed at us. I shudder when I think about it, but the babies were ok.
