its just a small basic 8 grand tach, goin on a 75 chevy truck,350 HEI

A tach signal does not carry hardly any voltage so a light wire will do fine, as the previous guy mentioned 16 gauge should be plenty. If your going to buy the tach new it probably comes with all the necessary wiring and hardware you will need to install it.

You don't need a tach! Just wind it up till oil hits the windshield, and then shift. It will take it man. As for the gauge of the wire, use the same gauge that comes out of the tach, or any wire larger, but not smaller. An eight grand tach is all you will need for a 350 unless its a roller motor, and eight would be an awful lot for a roller motor. I have a roller 350 (built), and I'm shifting at 7,500, but if I missed a gear or something the rev limiter would catch it.

Use the same size as comes out from the tach and the correct plug to plug into the distributor.

12 to 18 gauge. I prefer 18 gauge.
