In general, drink more water/non-caffeinated fluid.

It will keep you from straining and will help to prevent hemorrhoids (how's that for TMI *grin*).

The pebble like feces are a sign of dehydration.

You can find out more about natural hemorrhoids cure here http://curehemorrhoid.info
Diarrhea can contribute to hemorrhoid formation because the bowel undergoes pressure strains due to the condition. Undue pressure on the veins that make up internal hemorrhoidal structures can worsen existing damage. Internal hemorrhoids are not visible, unless they proplapse (protrude) from the anus, either constantly or during a bowel movement. If this is the case, then you have a grade III or IV internal hemorrhoid. If the protrusion is on the anal verge or the area surrounding the anus, then its likely an external hemorrhoid. Reducing pressure from issues of diarrhea and constipation will help. Not straining during a bowel movement, not lifting heavy objects, not sitting for extended periods, all will help.

An external hemorrhoid is simply a vein located at the anal verge, the wall of which as weakened and protruded. Don't push on it, this will only increase pressure and worsen it. The body has to repair the vein wall and rebuild the integrity. This takes time, perhaps weeks, if all goes well. Use sitz baths and over-the-counter medications such as pads or creams to provide symptom relief in the interim. These won't solve the issue long term, but will give the tissue a better chance at self-healing.

Internal hemorrhoids are a different matter and require more intervention. Your best bet is to educate yourself about the condition, its causes and what options there are to treat it both short and long term. Don't ignore it though, hemorrhoids tend to become chronic in nature, lasting years or decades in some cases.

Your gestation at this point is just a guess, but as for the question:

Yes. According to my doctor it IS okay to take Metamucil. Constipation is something that happens to MANY PG women, so you're not alone!

When you DO see your doctor, ask for a sheet with medications you can safely take as well as just ask questions in general. Your doctor knows the most about you.

You really should take your doctor's advice about what is and isn't safe.

Before you take metamucil, first try drinking a lot of water and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. The fiber in them will help get things moving, and it will provide nutrients that you baby needs anyway.

yes you can take metamucil while pregnant....one thing that might work out better for you is to eat Raisin Bran cereal a few times a week.

First, do "talk" to your Dr. about it. Second, buy a box of dried prunes, "sunsweet" is a good one, put about 2 cups of water in a saucepan and throw in the prunes, boil for about 2min. then simmer for 10 min. Let them cool and the liquid, put up in a refrigerator jar and serve yourself 1/2 cup each morning. You will not have your constipation, no cramps either if you don't eat more than 1/2 cup. And bonus! you are eating completely natural, no worries for baby. It's the boiling that is necessary to bring out the laxative effect of the Prune, just fresh or dried, they will not work, it's an enzyme released after cooking that does it.

My doctor discouraged it due to the aluminum that is in it and other ingrediants that aren't the best for your baby. She told me to get colace and to take it regularly. I found out I'm anemic and so I'm taking 330 milligrams of iron and it's caused the same problems that you appear to be having. Colace has helped so much. It takes a couple days to get going but as long as you stay on top of it, it is wonderful. Hope that helps :)

my doctor told me to take metamucil, eat bran cereal once a day and at least two apples a day, he also said I could use colace (a laxative), and milk of magnesia for "emergency" cases. Simply eating the bran and the apples has taken care of the constipation for me.
