It really is debatable or not for the x64 version, ONLY INSTALL THE X64 VERSION IF YOU HAVE A 64-BIT PROCESSOR(S) IN YOUR SYSTEM!!!! You will not get any benefits from the x64 version on a 32 bit processor system.
Anyway, like I said it is extremely debatable, for a HUGE advantage in 64 bit operating systems, programs have to be written that support 64 bit processors, and even though the 64 bit version is backward compatible with the 32 bit version, it opens the door for new potential problems.

Best thing you can do at this time is don't do it! Wait for Vista SP 2 or you will be dealing with a lot of problems. Give the rest of the public a chance to do the trouble shooting which is Microsofts ususal MO.

I WOULD RESEARCH IT BUT MY SUGGESTION IS X64. I KNOW THAT THERE ARE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE HARDWARE ON YOUR COMPUTER AS WELL. I WOULD MAKE SURE THAT YOUR COMPUTER MEETS THOSE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A SMOOTH TRANSITION. SUCH AS 64 BIT, 1 GIG + OF RAM.............
