It can mean lots of different things.
All women produce a mucus like discharge in the vagina that is creamy white with very little odor. Around the time of your ovulation the discharge is more clear and thinner, like a good lubricant. The rest of the time is should be creamy with no odor or itching.
If the discharge looks more like cottage cheese (lumpy and kind of frothy) and there is itching, then it is probably a yeast infection.
If the stuff is yellowish or greenish and has a bad smell, then it could be one of several STDs.

This site has good information that is easy to understand:

Sometimes that can be perfectly normal, if you are ovulating especially. You might have an infection, if you are having burning or itching it could be a yeast infection, possibly an STD, (no offence) I'd go to the doctor if it doesnt go away in the next few days

Most women have some discharge. Usually not to worry unless it has a yellow or green color, is clumpy like cottage cheese, or has a bad odor. It's a normal thing, especially right before your period.

When women ovulate, they have that white globby looking discharge...its no biggie unless you are itching and it has a foul odor...then it could be a yeast infection or worse.

All women of reproductive age, ovulate, and the discharge you describe sounds like estrogen discharge. As long as it isn't foul smelling, or colored, or you don't have any itching or irriitation, you're
ok.

Could be residual semen or something called cervical fluid - something that your body produces right before you are about to ovulate. If that's what it is, then you are very fertile right now.

If it doesn't burn, then its probably a yeast infection. Go to CVS and pick up some cream.
