1. crossfire requires two video card, a regular one and a crossfire editon one, is that correct?

2. can i still use the crossfire function if i am using 2 video cards from different company? for example, i have a Connect3D radeon X1950 and a HIS Radeon X1950 crossfire edition. will both card still work together properly?

3. can i use a single crossfire edition card as a normal display card? or it can only be used when the user is trying to get crossfire?

Check out the crossfire website, it has a demo video about installing crossfire and in the video it lists a compatability chart. According to that chart your situation should work.

You need to have two identical cards produced by the same manufacturer. For example, you cant mix Connect3D radeon X1950 and HIS Radeon X1950 crossfire edition and expect them to work.
