I'm in the NE area of SA, near Madison High School in one of the older neighborhoods and feel very safe. I'm from CA originally and I'm really happy with how much our neighbors all know each other. From what I can tell it's the same in other older neighborhoods in this general area. I'm not as familiar with the newer ones, but my husband grew up in this area w/his single mom and never had issues because again, all the neighbors knew each other and watched out for each other (and the kids).
I swore I would never leave CA, but I'm actually really happy here.
If you want to be close to New Braunfels you may want to look in the older section of Schertz which is about half way between NE, SA and New Braunfels.
Good Luck!

It can be. It really depends upon which neighborhood. NE San Antonio covers a pretty big area and the neighborhoods are very diverse. There are some very upscale and some on the lower end.
You will have to look for yourself and ask potential neighbors what they like about living there.
It has probably the best public school district in the city.

Check out the Kirby area. It is really a nice community. I live on the south side of San Antonio, but used to work in Kirby. You will like it there. The majority of the people are decent and hardworking. It's in the Judson School District, which is a large and rich district. Your kids will get a good education for sure. You might want to stay away from Park Village, though. It's close to Kirby, but the environment is the total opposite.

Northeast San Antonio is generally a good area. However, you need to investigate which part of the NE side of S.A. is safest by checking local police reports and so forth. Northeast Independent School District (NEISD) is a very good and wealthy school district. I know from experience! I wish the best for you and your family. I totally understand your concern.

I own a house in Universal City which is in the NE portion of San Antonio. It's my experience that it's one of the safest and crime free areas of San Antonio. The police department here is pretty active and I feel real safe. Nothing bad ever really happens here.

I lived on the northeast side and I lived downtown in the King William District. Either one is very good, but I recommend the Kind William district the most. I felt very safe there, as safe as anyone can feel in such a large city.

parts of Northeast are fine. if you work in New Braunfels Hwy 35 can get very busy. If i was moving I would contact apartment locator or real estate agent. they can help with info regarding schoold, safe neighborhoods etc. Good Luck with the move.

I would sugest moving to the universal city area or some of the smaller oute lying towns around SA. They are , for the most part, still in the NEISD school district but you wont have to put up with driving in and out of the city.

I would suggest finding a NE neighborhood that is close to 1604 and 281 area. They are a little newer and nicer.
