own slaves or owned slaves? Very unlikely........

This sounds like "feel-good" legislation that will be used to mainly promote tourism for Virginia and mainly Jamestown.

The resolution passed the House 96-0 and cleared the 40-member Senate on a unanimous voice vote. It does not require Gov. Timothy M. Kaine's approval.
The measure also expressed regret for "the exploitation of Native Americans."
The resolution was introduced as Virginia begins its celebration of the 400th anniversary of Jamestown, where the first Africans arrived in 1619.

Coincidence -- I personally believe so but maybe I'm a cynic.

RedPower you are the bigot.....I didn't do anything to slaves and neither did any of my ancesters... most were dirt poor miners in WV and PA .
It may shock you to know there are millions of people that never owned slaves - so why should everyone pay?
Grow up and take off the rose colored glasses of everyone is wrong but sweet little me........

I agree that it's silly, but if it does manage to give Virginia some free publicity and an increase in tourist traffic, that sounds like money well spent.

Well. Congratulations! You mangaged to get an answer out of several bigots. Well I guess that's not hard you being one yourself.

You truly are sick. Why don't you educate yourself on American history. You are the type of person that spreads hate and ignorance.

R U really serious. People who were Tortured, Kidnapped, Raped, Held as Slaved, Committed Genocide Against, Steralized, and more... don't deserve even an apology? Well, then you are the sickest person I know. Hope you have a great life right now because your karma is going to come around and kick you in the butt.

Gross, Gross, Gross!!! What else is there to say. Sick!

Why do people deserve an apology? Because people like you still exist.

on the start, i presumed this replaced right into a great waste of time and capability on the area of the Virginia homestead, yet now i'm no longer so beneficial. After questioning approximately it, i do no longer think of it fairly is a bad theory in any respect. relatively because of the fact it replaced into no longer an "apology" yet a "assertion of be apologetic approximately." An apology implies concieved guilt and admission of accountability; a assertion of be apologetic approximately would not. An apology will open the door for economic reparations, on a similar time as a assertion of be apologetic approximately won't. And have faith me, that door to reparations would be tried any day now.... incredibly, i do no longer see a situation with all the former accomplice States issuing comparable statements of be apologetic approximately. that could effectively eliminate the drained previous argument of "my great-great-great-great-grandfather replaced right into a slave, so which you OWE ME THIS AND THIS!" of path, there will be people who will say a assertion of be apologetic approximately - even an entire-blown apology - heavily isn't adequate, and that they are going to then attempt to open that door to reparations. in spite of the undeniable fact that it won't paintings. via that factor public opinion could have swung any other way, and the the remainder of the civilized u . s . will see that even after the former accomplice States have all issued "statements of be apologetic approximately," there'll proceed to be a element of the black community which will nonetheless prefer a handout - something for no longer something - and that area of the community will finally be known for what it fairly is, and could be scorned and skipped over. And get no longer something, it incredibly is basically what they deserve. particular, slavery replaced into an abomination and a blight on the face of our great u . s ., yet once you prefer to place blame for it and get an apology from somebody over it, then you definately'll extra acceptable be arranged to place the blame squarely in the laps of our Founding Fathers who allowed a shape that did no longer outlaw slavery to be ratified, and you will extra acceptable anticipate the apology to return from the U. S. government and not the Southern states. after all, once you are going to hold the ancestors in charge for the misdeeds of the ineffective, then you definately'll extra acceptable circulate after the federal government because of the fact they're the ancestors of those in charge.

Now all American men must apologize to all American women because women did not get the right to vote until 1920. Oh, and Germans should apologize to Jews for the Holocaust. Oh, and Catholics should apologize to Christians for persecution. Oh, and Christians should apologize to Catholics for persecution. Oh, and Muslims should apologize for 9/11. Oh, and Mongolians should apologize to Russians for invading their land centuries ago.

I can't believe the Virginia General Assembly wasted their time with this nonsense when it could have been doing something like, I don't know, getting criminals off the streets!

it seems the trail of tears goes unnoticed until something else happens. kinda makes you wonder. someone apologizing for something they didnt do, years after the fact, and why does it involve money? i didnt think you had to pay to apologize. to me, the whole thing is stupid. my great, great grandfather died in the civil war trying to free the slaves. i demand an apology, and some money.

I see America has made way for them to advance, Indians have reservations with gambling feeding their income and all we have is the question after all this race has done to make this nation a great one ARE WE READY $ A BLACK PRESIDENT?

because these days a plain "sorry" through legislations is not acknowledge as a serious apology...we are on the era where apologies are accompanied by reparations that are often expensive.

I agree. Pure politics. There's not a person alive in the last 50 years that had anything to do with Virginia's slavery period. Why in hell should anyone apologize now??? It's just like the reparation question. I had nothing to do with slavery, so why should I pay for it??? Just another black hand-out!
