Wow, some people seem to be on the wacky-tobaccy out there. Admittedly, some candles burn crazy fast and some seem to burn on forever, however; from my personal experience with candle spell work(read: active pagan of 18 years), the more rapidly a candle burns, the more your projected energy is needed and utilized to aid in the task. If a candle burns slow- this might not be the time for the work or the time for resolution of the matter. A rapid burn implies focus and necessity of the goal. And before anyone argues composition and such I have composed and used candles from the same batch of wick and wax with different results. Again, not certified by any Barnes and Noble special, but simply my personal experience.

not really, there are candle burning designs that are for fortune telling , similar to tea leaf reading , but when doing ritual its really not part of it. the main thing is color, how long the candle burns, how many times its repeated, and the annointing oil used with it. blessed be

Usually not, unless you're practicing ceromancy. Generally the candle itself is symbolic, not dynamic.
