A really easy scarf is just knitting every row. I would suggest using a US size 10 or 12 needle.. and worsted weight yarn (or a little thicker) in a lighter color (it's easiest to learn how to knit with). I wouldn't expect your first try to turn into something fantastic... but worsted weight yarn is typically easy to take apart so you can reuse the yarn to make the scarf again.
Go to http://knittinghelp.com to learn how to knit. The site contains instructional videos for how to knit from beginning (casting on) to end (binding off). Once you feel confident, there are also free patterns labeled by experience level to continue your new hobby.
Be careful, knitting is addicting! haha.

It is so simple this is the first thing that I learned to knit. Knit every row until you are happy with the length. The wideth can be any wideth that you want mine was a skinny scraf so I cast on 20 sticthes and wnet from there. Add some tassle to each end and you are all one. You could also make a longer scraf and fold the ends a few inches & sew up the side up to make a pocket to keep your hands warm. If you don't like gloves. Like myself.

If you google knitting, there are some really great sites with instructions. I would recommend starting with crochet, though, it is easier to learn (one needle instead of two).
