How old is the Batt? Take it out of the car and take it to a Auto Parts Store like AutoZone and have them Test the batt frist. if it testes out good then put it back in the car then take the starter off and have them test it.
my guess would be it's the batt tho

If your car eventually starts, you can pretty much rule out the battery.
Depending on the car it is probably either the starter or the start solenoid. 99 times out of 100 it is the starter, and in most cases the assembly that actually engages the starter to the flywheel is shot.
If you are inclined, take it off and have it repaired or replaced. If not, get your vehicle to a mechanic.

I drive a ford ranger. Just a couple months ago I went to start my truck and heard a "tick tick tick tick" sound. It was indeed the starter in my case, but vehicles are complicated things. I would take it to a trusted garage for evaluation if i were you, or take the starter out and have it tested at a local auto replacement store.

It would be your starter your battery won't make a noise. There may be some teeth missing on you ring gear on the flywheel. This is where the starter clog contacts the teeth to turn your engine over.

i own a shop, and depending on what type of car it is, it could be a starter or a solenoid switch on it,you failed to mention the type of car it was and that's kind of important for the correct answer, but just guessing id say its probably the starter going out on it,good luck,i hope this help,s.

check the voltage across your battery terminal,s........should read at least 12.5 volt,s......then apply a load [turn on your light,s] for 15 second,s.....then turn off the load.....should rebound to at least 12 volt,s......if not replace the battery.........now you,ll need a ammeter to test starter draw......but the volt meter will do.......try to start......doe,s it take half your volt,s to turn....if so replace the starter........brushes are probably worn to the point where they have to heat up to bridge the air gap.........first be sure the solenoid switch is in good condition..........good luck.

like the first guy said, check your battery is all good first, if you try jup starting it and get same result, then i'd say your started needs overhauling. but if ya batterys flat and jump starting it works you may have a charging (alternator) problem!
