This is a healthcare decision you and your gynecologist should discuss together. Personally, i think it's the devil's medicine! I was on it for 3 years and it did what it was supposed to do by not allowing me to get pregnant. It also stopped my periods which at the time I thought was great. It also caused my hair to start falling out, weight gain, emotional mood swings and about a year off of the depo before my cycles were on track!

No, I definitely do not that that depo is a good form of birth control. Im sure there are some women that it works great for though. I, however, gained 20 pounds (and had a hard time loosing it) and had terrible mood swings. The depo shot basically gives you hormones that a man should have... weight gain, bulkiness, acne, and it can thin out your hair. It also made me skip periods.. and I didn't have one for 4 years! While this seemed great at the time.. i now learned that during those four years i developed polycystic ovaries and since it went untreated.. i may be infertile. It also lowered my estrogen level, and I suffered from depression all the time.

So no, to me if did more harm then good.

The depo has been a controversy since it has started. Some people think its great and some think its horrible. Me, i personally think you should just take the pill, its more effective and has less of the bloating weight gaining side effects, plus in some cases depo has been seen to still get women pregnant and to mess up your insides as well.

NOOOoooo Way!!! Look up horrorstoriesofdepoprovera.com

It is horrible. I was on it for just over two years. I now have osteoporosis at 27!! Depo causes major bone loss and can sterilize you among lots of other problems. Be safe!

My sister gained A LOT of weight on it. and then I heard a girl i worked with say that it made her really hungry at night and my sister said that it did that to her too and that's why she gained so much weight because it increased her appitite. i use ortho tricycline low, it works very good, i havent had any of the negative side effects experienced from other pills, the only down side is remembering to take it everyday, but its amazing in helping regulate your period and cutting down the number of days im on and how heavy it is.

I have heard allot of pros and cons about the depo shot- in all reality you wont know if its right for you until you have tried it- I have used it and have not had any side effects- I personally love it but your body might react to it differently -talk to a physician about your concerns and if its right for you

Each woman has to make the best informed decision about her chosen method of birth control. If it is working for you, and you aren't having any side effects, then you chose the right one.
