I don't think that it is. Neither of my parents are claustrophobic, but being in a small or crowded space causes my heart to race and I'll do almost anything to get out of the situation.

It's different from being uncomfortable--for it to be a phobia it has to make you panic. It's possible that it's inherited but not always expressed, because it is a really common phobia and that might explain why so many people have it.

I don't think so.

Most experts believe that developing claustrophobia has something to do with traumatic childhood experiences involving enclosed spaces.

no but like most behaviors it can be learned
