Get a voice instructor, and then sing wherever, whenever, and however you can. Go to every audition, every karaoke bar, every open mic night you can make it to, and sing your heart out. If it happens, it will. If not, it won't. Making it in the music world is seriously a lot of luck.

Depends on how old you are. If in school, get some experience by getting in Broadway musicals for High School. Enter talent shows in your area. Experience is the best teacher. Join a band if your good enough. Make a demo, the best you can afford. Sing a lot around your friends; if they tell you to shut up after awhile, you probably are not good enough.
Note: I used to sing around my friends between the ages of 14 to 22 and nobody ever said to be quit. I later got a job singing, but didn't pursue it. Darn it!!! As others have said, if you feel your good enough, get a great song and enter American Idol.

I'm a semi-professional performer and recording artist. The best thing you can do is to sing in front of an audience every chance you get so you can get more comfortable with it. If you want to be a professional singer, here's another thing to remember: To get people to listen to you, it's completely unneccesary that you be signed to a label. All you need is a lot of self-promotion. Good luck!
If you have any questions for me, feel free to e-mail me from my profile.
P.S. You don't have to be on American Idol, either. If you do try out for it, remember it's a show simply meant for entertainment, so just have fun and don't worry about it.

Anyplace where there is a singing competition going on and also kareoke bars are always good. My city has a local Idol competition every year and I suggest finding a local comp. first before you go on a show like American/Canadian Idol. That way if you win the competition, then you know you're good enough to go in front of Simon Cowell. lol.
Take Care,
Cindy

No it really is not any longer. it really is all about promoting. you want to construct your own target audience on the internet. internet helps you to attain thousands of thousands of households an afternoon besides as international listeners. record a some music and make your own internet web site also get Myspace, facebook, YouTube (make your own music video), and then link all the pages jointly. Labels look at what percentage hits you get on your internet web site. it really is how Tequila from shot of love became discovered and Soldier Boy--no longer that i'm followers. notwithstanding, once you've expertise which will make it even extra appropriate.
