This question has taken me a super long time to answer -- I've spent much of the time yawning every time I try to research! It's true! Are you yawning yet? Humans yawn when they see someone else yawn, read about yawning, think about yawning, or even just hear yawning.

Scientists say Yawn is a reflex of inhalation and exhalation that draws more oxygen into the bloodstream. A reflex is a built-in physical reaction that people often do not have control over. A yawn is often associated with a person being tired, but this is not always the cause for a yawn. People yawn for many reasons including stress, boredom, emotion and over-work.

It seems like that only. It is a human tendency to do the thing the other one does without the knowledge of the person. Anyhow researches are being done by the scientists on this issue. Yawning, is a reflex of deep inhalation and exhalation associated with being tired, with a need to sleep, or from lack of stimulation. It may be contagious as I too observed a lot of persons sitting in a row yawning, after one person yawns.

Malcom Gladwell in his book _The Tipping Point_ has a neat little section where he discusses all the ways in which yawning is contagious. It's physically contagious (so being near a yawner makes you yawn) and mentally contagious (so listening to someone even talk about yawning or reading about it can set you off too).

Although the physical sources of yawning include factors like excess carbon dioxide in the blood (so you sometimes yawn after a really heavy workout even if you're not sleepy) but theories vary as to the cause of its contagiousness.

P.S. I yawned five times just writing this damned answer.

Yes.
A person yawns if his/her brain doesn't get enough oxygen or if he/she is sleepy.
I read in the Times of India once that yawning is suggestive.
They said that seeing someone yawn suggests your brain to yawn. It is sugestive as laughter. If we see someone laughing (we may not know the reason for which the person if laughing or find the reason for which the person if laughing funny) we feel like laughing.

In case of yawning but I have not noticed it in case of water, however If I am thirsty I walkout to drinking fountain and stand in line so this thing may not affect me because I did go for the purpose.

It's a habit used during socialization. It happens more in response to someone else, rather than because of it. have you ever seen dogs doing this in greeting? Being social creatures we readily empathize with others. ie. watching a person in a movie get attacked by spiders, and your skin crawls in response. Hope that helped.
