okay, first off...Im in the 11th grade. 9th grade, my grades were okay...not all that great...10th grades pretty much the same, but they came up a little. Now in 11th, they have started getting consideraly better...and its on a upward trend very fast. But my question is...do colleges look for an "upward" trend in your grades. You know, even if your grades your first two years werent all that great, but you improve alot the last two years...and show alot of potential

absolutely. doing better as you progress in high school shows you can handle more work. colleges think taht hte transition from middle school to high school is rather tough, so htey don't pay much attention to freshman year. but they still look at it. they look at sophmore yr with more emphasis b/c u've already had a yr's experience to settle down to high school. however, junior yr has the most emphasis placed on it b/c ur closer to college and ur grades reveal whether or not you can handle college material.

so, continue to excel in your classes, its great ur doing well. try taking challenging courses in ur senior yr, but still do well in them. colleges like to see prospective students taking difficult classes and doing well in them, or resonably (above an 85) b/c it shows u can handle college and it shows dedication and hard work.

also, extracurriculars are a great additive to your resume for college, especially leadership positions. e.g. student council, presidential roles and not jsut membership roles. if there are language societies or clubs in ur school, join htem b/c thats a really great feature collegse like. and for ap's foreign language ones are also great. forgot ot mention above, take APs!!!! they're really important, an ap us history teacher in my school, it's necessary to take AP's to be considered for a good college.

sat scores do matter, try to do well above average (1520) on the 2400 SAT.

and have a killer personal essay!

GREAT LUCK

yes they do. they also like to see that you have continued to challenge yourself and that you haven't just decided to take all easy classes.....so stay away from all of the cooking classes!
