what's the difference between the number [inch measurement] and the cup size? [i.e. 38A, 42B] isn't it that if your inch measurement goes up, doesn't your cup size go up too? what's the difference?

To find the number, measure around your chest, under your breasts. This is your band size.

To find the up size, measure around your chest, over the fullest part of your breats. This will determine your cup size.

Take your measurement around the fullest part of your breasts, then subrtract the measurement for the band. If the number you come up with is 1", you are an A cup, 2" is a B cup, 3" is a C cup, 4" is a D cup, 5 is a DD/E cup, 6 is an F cup, etc.

Keep in mind that every bra brand fits differently--some run smaller in the cups than others. You can always ask a clerk to help measure & fit you. (The Bali/Leggs/Hanes outlet stores do this, Victoria's Secret does this, and most better dept stores will too.)

You can have one of both your measurements change, so it is suggested that you are measured every time you are buying--especially if you have gained or lost weight, or had a child since your last fitting.

The link below gives a more in depth description on how to measure (including a picture of where the measures should b taken...)

Good Luck!

The number is your band size and you find this out by measuring the ribcage below the breasts and adding 3-5 inches to take into account that your ribcage expands as it goes upwards.

The letter is your cup size and you find this out by measuring around the fullest part of your breasts and then subtracting your band size from your bust measurement. The amount of inches difference will correspond to a letter. Usually for every inch difference, the cup size goes up one.

The 32, 36, 38 etc. is the measurement around you. The cup size, A< B< C, etc. is size of your boobs.

Not necessarily. The number measurement is how many inches around your chest the measuring tape goes. If you have big breasts but they sag really bad the number will be low. If you are kinda on the hefty side your number will be high.

If you have to ask, you're flat-chested. (38DD talking here, at age 16.)
