how can i upgrade my computer to a have a 8x dvd rom
without buying anything.is there a website were i can just download it

thats the max speed the drive can read the dvds
i hate to say it but to have faster read disc time you need to install a new dvd drive get a dvd burner so you can make backups of big files and you can save space on your hard drive
i got mine last month from walmart for 60 dollars at 16x write speed plus its a lightscribe self labeling drive and a hp brand

No...DVD roms are hardware not software...Most DVD burners now start at about $40....

no, thats the firmware speed, buy a new drive. theyre used at most local swap meets for about five or ten bucks and easy to install.
