I think it'll be Kobe since he's gotten close to it.

Try no one.

Also, 82 points is not "close" to 100.

That's like saying a guy who scored 5 points in a game is "close" to a guy who scored 23 points in a game. Where's he gonna get the other 18 points?

If a team wins a game by 18 points, with a final score of 100-82, is that a "close" game?

Kobe did not come close to what Wilt did. If he scores 95 in a game, THAT would be "close", just as a 5 point game could be called "close".

Seems that the word "close" has be re-defined here at Yahoo Answers.

btw, to the idiot who said there was no one else who was tall during that era, the Knicks center who guarded (if I can use that term) Wilt on the night he scored 100 was 6'11", a full TWO INCHES shorter than Wilt... (also, Jabbar was not in the league when Wilt scored 100).

Jordan never scored 100 aginst a 6'4" guy (two inch difference), even though he'd often be guarded by guys that size. Heck, he never even scored 70 against a 6'4" guy.

Shaq never scored 100 against a 6'10" guy. Yao never scored 100 against a 7'2" guy. Zdrunis Ilgauskas never scored 100 against a 7'1" guy. Ben Wallace never scored 100 against a 6'7" guy.

At any rate, no one will ever score 100 in a game, and 82 is not "close" to 100.

I dont see the century mark ever happening again, the circumstances surrounding Wilt Chamberlain's monumental achievement are too different than today. The NBA is really trying to push the team game more as evidenced by Adidas' 5ive campaign. That said, if I were forced to guess I would say either Agent 0 Gilbert Arenas or LeBron James. They would both have to decide to chase the record that night though. They have the supporting casts necessary to play tough D and get them the ball. Plus they play in the east against woeful teams like the Knicks, Hawks, Celtics and 6ers If AI stayed in Philly, I would say he has a good shot because that is the type of player he is and the 6ers are so bad, that they would need to him to carry that 90+% of the scoring.

I don't think anyone in hisory will ever break that record. Kobe came close, but if you looka at it, ot's still far away. He only reached 81. He needed 19 more. I think Kobe will flirt with Wilt's 100-point mark once again. When I say flirt, I mean he will reach around 60 or 70. I don't think anyone can break that record. Especially now that basketball is being played at a whole different level.

seem as if since a lot of people saw Kobe score 81 that 100 is in reach...well its not...I remember seeing George Gervin and David Thompson chase the scoring title the last game of one season Ice went for 71 or 2 and DT went for 69...the other players kind of went along with it...but they will not let a player score 100 in a game nowadays...Kobe played phenomenal and was a tad lucky to score 81 (not the greatest defense he faced...) besides...in LA the objective is not for Kobe to score 40 a game, but for the team to grow in experience and confidence and win games...

doingitright44, the objective in L.A. should be for Kobe to score as many points as he can.The Lakers usually win when he scores over 40,and it's more entertaining to watch. He's a scorer, that's what he does(and I guarantee he could average over 40 a game if he wanted to).I don't think anybody will ever again score 100 in a game, unless they incorporate a 5 point line near half court.Kobe might come close again though.

Currently, the only player with a chance to score 100 is KOBE.

He will only do this if a team plays absolutely no defense. I.e. Seattle, Toronto.

No one. Wilt was only good because he was so tall. he took all the shots and the only person as tall as him in that era was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. But i think the best scorer this season is either D-Wade or Agent Zero (Gilbert Arenas)

His name is Neirus Melancrauss. He plays in Europe but he might enter the NBA draft this year.

I don't see it happening again. And there would be no way to predict if it did happen. Someone would just have to have an extremely hot night. But it's highly unlikely
