I refuse to pick...they were both gods among men. You can pick which ever one you want and I'll gladly take the other. Both were incredibly hard workers, neither wanted or needed to be center stage, and both wanted to win at all costs (which ultimately is what lead Barry to retire afte 8 seasons with the Lions, he was hoping that the would let him into free agency...when they didn't he chose to walk away. Though I would have loved to see him continue, I respect him for his decision...not many guys can walk away from fame and fortune that easily.).

Actually, both of them were the best for their style of running. Payton had an offensive line able to push defenders out of the way for him to run and score. However, Barry Sanders did his running with a mediocre offensive line and was still able to do his thing. Both are the best at that position regardless of how you look at it. If I had to choose, though, Barry Sanders would be it, but only because I am a Lions fan no matter how sucky the Lions are.

Walter Payton by far, he is the greatest running back to ever play the game and he was a classy guy. Besides sanders was not in the league that long, even though he set records he didn't leave a huge legacy like Walter.

They were both amazing runners, personally I would go with Walter. He was the reason I picked up a football. But Barry did things that I never thought were humanly possible. The thing that I got out from both of them is the work ethic they both had. They both worked harder than anyone else and it showed on gameday.

That would be a hard pick. They had different styles. Barry could dance and switch dirrection on a dime and make tacklers look foolish. Walter tried to punish people who tackled him. Both were great running backs.

I think Barry was the best RB of all time. No disrespect to Walter or Jim intended

Walter Payton. Sanders might have been better, but he retired way too soon.

I like Barry Sanders better because he was flashy and put on a show.

Both were awesome, but I've gotta pick Walter Payton to be the best.
