Sometimes, when people see asians, SOME automatically think that they might be Chinese or Japanese.

Because many filipinos are chinese. I have seen and met many filipinos...well mostly filipinas who have chinese fathers. So, there are a lot of filipinos who look like chinese.
But, many people do not know how to characterize asian people well. Especially westerners. Before I lived in asia for so long, I couldn't have told you the difference between, korean, filipina, chinese, or Japanese. Now, I know the distinct looks of all of these races, oh, and Thai too.
My wife, a 100% filipina, is often mistaken for korean by filipinos but she does not look korean at all. I am currently living in korea and the difference is stark.

Its because us Asians all look alike to some extent. Small, slanted eyes, our height, etc. But Filipinos and Chinese look way different. Plus, this person who doesn't know the difference must be kind of dumb

It comes from their limited exposure to Asians, thus, their inability or poor ability to distinguish one nationality from another.
But it's also true that the Philippines has a significant part of its population who are of Chinese descent, due to migration and intermarriage.

6% of the Philippino population are Philippine Chinese from a long-long time ago. These people also have descendants married to regular Malay/Indonesian type Pinoys

well the same way filipinos in the philippines think all white people are from america..
when they can be europe..austrailla..south africa..
i bet if 5 people from all those countries stood together you couldnt tell..who's from who..unless you hear their accent

Come on now, need you really ask this? I will not say that all Asians look alike, being married to a Filipina myself, because once you know, they do not all look alike. Yes, they are similar to a certain degree, just like whites are similar to Russians, but to a practiced eye, there is a difference. Asians have slanted eyes, yellow hued skin and jet black hair.

If you're not Filipino, you can't really see the difference. In the US, I was mistaken as latino. In Vietnam, I was thought of as big man from Nepal. That's because I'm the best bred of Malay stock.
