Does it come from where your parents, grand parents, g grand parents, gg grand parents, and etc. were born? If that's the case, shouldn't everyone is every race since their ancestry was born on every place on earth except antarctica. and since they everyone has the same ancestry, wouldn't it make them very long lost sibblings that have the same nationality as some other guy down the street? Or where you were born and that's all?

Nationality is usually when a group of people within certain territorial boundaries will define themselves according to common / shared cultural beliefs, a common language, shared religious customs, shared ancestry, common political beliefs.

Its hard to actually pinpoint when individuals will begin to associate themselves as 'belonging' to a particular group or race and is still an open issue - look at the many countries where that sense of belonging ie Yugoslavia - has completely fallen apart.

There is a lot of debate about the good / evil of nationalism. For example - who has the right to decide who belongs and who doesnt? Something the Nazis and nationalists / patriots/ racists use to exclude others who dont belong - according to them.

--You are right there should not be any division among us because when God created humans he did not make national boundaries or nations as we have today.

--In some cases nationalism is like a religion to many people!
--So that is why we have the wars, each nation THINKS that their nationality is better than the others--leading to the atrocities in war!
--One of the worst examples was that of monster Hitler and his making the effort to make the Germans the super Nationality--through Nazism!

Nationalism:-- a sense of national consciousness exalting one nation above all others and putting the promotion of its culture and interests before those of others; a concept that first became apparent at the end of the 18th century but that has reached its peak in the 20th century.

I like the point you raise about virtually everyone being siblings. I remember that "The Atlantic Monthly" had an article a few years ago that reported statisticians' findings on ancestry: If you're of European descent, it's almost certain that you can trace your ancestry back to Charlemagne. (If you're Asian ditto for Genghis Khan!)

I'd like to make a comment about "heritage." Heritage is about the emotions attached to our family history. Nothing more.

well i think that our religion and culture comes from our parent and ancestors. but i define nationality as your loyalty to your country. so if i was born in u.s.a. my nationality is an American. so basically what ever nation you represent gives you your nationality. but yeah-at some point we were all scattered in our past-so i think it would be really cool to find a lost family member as my neighbor

nationality does not define ones racial heritage. Nationality is merely a statement of National heritage - often it is mistaken for racial heritage when in fact racial heritage has little to do with national heritage...

i.e. an American can state his/her nationality is American, but his/her racial heritage maybe African/American or Hispanic or Asian or even Arabian.... too often people confuse the two

nationality = mosty the race and the ideology. after that comes the language and the religion.

you are not asking a question, you are trying to say something.
