Shure microphones

For $100, the Shure SM58 or SM58S (with switch) is the old workhorse microphone. This is the microphone preferred by most people that are putting together a PA system for live performances. If you want a smoothe flat sound that you control well with minimum feedback problems, I suggest an EV 767a microphone ($140). Neither of the microphones are top dollar mics, but both are very good and reliable. Beware of imitations of the Shure mics. Many are being imported from China with the same labeling. Buy from a reputable dealer for the genuine thing.
Some people prefer a good condenser microphone, however if your system has phantom power to all channels at same time, it may interfere with any amplifier that you may be using a line in. Batteries in these are not a good choice due to failure during a performance.
